Free Skate program: Pinocchio
The Mini Shooting Stars-Beginner team skates in the Synchro Skills division and competes in local competitions. The skaters are 8 to 11 years old and come from the greater Boston area. Coaching focuses equally on teaching the five basic elements of synchronized skating (circle, intersection, block, line and wheel) and improving each skater's individual skills. It is the team's mission to learn and perform their program, improving at each performance. Often this team is a skater’s first experience with synchronized skating and it is expected to take 1-2 years on this team for each skater to develop the skills and strength necessary to move up to the preliminary division.
The Mini Shooting Stars show off their progress by participating in local exhibitions and competitions from the team rally in October through the spring show in May. They learn off-ice skills including tying their own skates, warm-up stretching, formal ballet and posture, and locker room skills. As they progress through the season, they are exposed to a fun learning experience and connect with our juvenile-level skaters who take these young skaters under their wing and share the joy of figure skating. At the end of the year they will have experienced many of the benefits and joys of synchronized team skating. The Mini Shooting Stars aim to practice and perform the best that they can. They learn that it is fun to work hard, grow as a skater and do a good job!
